We need the tonic of wildness...

We need the tonic of wildness... At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.

~ The Cabin ~

our cabin inspiration
This is the feel that we are hoping to achieve with our cabin. Simple, beautiful. I've wanted this style of dining chair from the beginning, but the ones that I found were expensive. Hundreds of dollars expensive. Not happening. After working in the studio on Monday, I (for some bizarre reason) decided to clean out this large copper tub that has old magazines in it. I came across a plastic wrapped Spring catalog from Restoration Hardware that came months ago and decided to take a look. Who doesn't love beautiful pictures? I found these dining chairs in the catalog and went to their website to see if they were still available.
all three styles are on clearance!
They are. And they are ON SALE. $29 a piece and free shipping. What?!?! I ordered five of the Hagen style, since there are five of us
bent plywood hagen chair on sale for $29
and then today went back for three of the Forma style, to bring out when we have company.

They are small enough to stack in the storage closet upstairs when we aren't using them. Someone please buy the indigo version, since it wasn't available for delivery to my area! They are also available in barstool height and in a painted version, if you want something shinier.

a little karate kid action. these boys are troopers!
The floors are in upstairs! My hubby and the boys sanded and sanded and sanded. We had so much fun, just knowing that we were a part of the building process and working on something that was going to be ours! My hubby worked until he had blisters on his knees. Honest to goodness, blisters. He's a champ!
talk about sweat equity!
It was hard work but a lot of fun watching the wood transform into something beautiful.
pulling together the bathroom
We've been picking out light fixture placement and fixtures and faucets and... It. is. hard. to pull all of this stuff together. We didn't want matching anything, more of a pulled together over the years feeling. I finally had to print off tiny pictures of the chosen elements, just to make sure that it all worked cohesively together. I'm still not sold on the mirror, but that is easily changed. My pinterest board has really helped me to zero in on (and stay with) the 'look' that I want for the cabin.  We're having a blast!

~ The Cabin ~

my new claw foot tub
I KNEW that a claw foot tub had to be a part of our new log cabin. Finding one that wasn't a small fortune was quite a feat. I decided on an acrylic version for several reasons. Weight and not ever having to deal with rust were the major ones. I found this double slipper claw foot tub AND the faucet on Amazon.com for under $1,000. The floor faucet alone would run half of that, so I purchased immediately when I found this amazing deal! I've run another Amazon search here for double slipper tubs, if anyone else is dreaming about having one... Someone please buy one of the copper beauties! (and no, I won't receive anything if you end up snatching one up. I have no idea how that even works.)

Our bathroom is tiny. Two walls are full log, one borders the kitchen and the other has the door that leads to our bedroom. The two regular walls are needed to hide electrical, plumbing, air vents, etc. This tub, a pedestal sink and a toilet will fill up the entire space. We're having open shelving covering one part of the kitchen wall, for storage. I'm still deciding on flooring for the bathroom. I know that I want tile. Maybe one of these.

~ The Cabin ~

the outside
It's official, we are building a log cabin!! A tiny one, bordering a 350 acre hardwood preserve here in Tennessee. This is my dream, and I still can't believe that it is happening. We've been save, save, saving, and just purchased this log cabin shell. It's in the perfect stage to decide on roof, (don't you love the tin roof that we chose?!) We worked with the husband and wife building team to choose the complete interior layout, which is amazing and completely nuts. Peaces of Indigo keeps my schedule totally packed for 12+ hours each day, so thankfully Craig (my hubby) is doing most of the pulling together of stoves, faucets, light fixtures, etc. I didn't realize how many decisions would need to be made! I want to support craftsmen on Etsy and small businesses as much as possible, then add in the fact that we are doing this on a budget and things get really crazy.....

This is where Pinterest comes in! I find pictures of ideas that I love, but trying to find that Pinterest pretty claw foot bathtub, etc. that isn't $5000 is quite a challenge. Thank you, Google search, for allowing us to shop around at 11pm from the comfort of our home. I've been making a list of ideas, inspiration, drool worthy cabin photos for a while, so a lot of our cabin's look will be pulled from tidbits here. It's going to be sweet and simple, so we can run around in the woods and enjoy mother nature with our boys for now, then Craig and I will move here when they are out of school. It's honestly in the middle of nowhere. 1 hour round trip to the closest grocery store, REAL middle of nowhere. Heaven.

I though that it would be really fun to post about the building process on my blog. My business on Etsy has drawn SO many lovely people into my life, from all over the world, and I'd LOVE to have your input on the elements that we are deciding on. First up, bathtubs......

There's just something about the shade of lavender that soothes the soul. I can almost smell the fragrance of blooming lavender when I catch a glimpse of this color. Bliss~

~ Inspiration ~

My hydrangeas are blooming!
This little guy was hanging out above my studio door this morning.
This sweet bunny has been hopping around our yard for a few
weeks. He's finally warming up to me enough to stay put when he
sees me come outside. I catch a glimpse of him almost every day,
when I'm heading into the studio.
There's just something about summertime that is lovely and intoxicating. The fragrance of flowers blooming, the song of birds in the morning and cicadas in the evening, it's wonderful.
Happy Wednesday, sweet friends!
