Self portrait

She has a young face
An old face
She carries herself well
In all ages
She survives all man has done

In some tribes she is free
In some religions
She is under man
In some societies
She's worth what she consumes

In some nations
She is delicate strength
In some states
She is told she is weak
In some classes
She is property owned

In all instances
She is sister to earth
In all conditions
She is life bringer
In all life she is our necessity

See the woman eyes
Flowers swaying
On scattered hills
Sundancing calling in the bees

See the woman heart
Lavender butterflies
Fronting blue sky
Misty rain falling
On soft wild roses

See the woman beauty
Lightning streaking
Dark summer nights
Forests of pines mating
With new winter snow

See the woman spirit
Daily serving courage
With laughter
Her breath a dream
And a prayer

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

My Favorite Things

sheath long sleeve wedding dress by Cathy Telle

I discovered Cathy Telle's gorgeous work while browsing wedding artists on Etsy. Her dresses celebrate femininity and have a gorgeous ethereal feel to them.

I love that each of her gowns has a very distinct personality. When I'm designing new pieces, I imagine the person that will be drawn to the piece. When I came across these photos, I found myself matching wedding bands and engagement rings to each 'bride'.

Enjoy!

Musings

I've been working on an entire line of new pieces for my website. Designs that reflect my current look, but expand it, as well. Also, working on getting my new showroom ready for customers to visit. So many new lovelies, ideas becoming treasures, new skills being honed. December was a month of reflecting, planning, and designing. Refining the direction for Peaces of Indigo in this new year. A time of inner stillness, listening, waiting. Allowing my heart and soul to be filled with a fresh wave of inspiration and energy for this new year. Taking a break and bringing my attention to things outside of Peaces of Indigo. Minimizing distractions. Days filled with family, traditions, laughter, books. I have so much to share. But not quite yet...

Happy Friday, sweet friends!!
